About Littlerobothead
It begins
I started “designing” as soon as I could hold a pencil. I filled any blank white space with drawings and scribblings, and by the time I was a teenager I was certain that art and design would be my calling. I was also influenced by my family, some of whom were involved in design as well. It was my dad who taught me an appreciation of typography as he showed me how to set lead type by hand on an old letterpress machine. We produced Christmas cards in just such a way for many years.
The computer (specifically the Mac) had also been a large influence on my work in my formative years; I learned to use Photoshop and PageMaker (remember that?) so that I could produce music ‘zines with my friends. But it was work building early banner ads that really opened my eyes to the ways in which the internet would someday be more like a utility than just an interesting luxury.
Before long I was designing sites for people like musician Paula Cole, and I was hooked. Since then I’ve made forays into traditional agency advertising work, which is one of my first loves; there’s really nothing that compares to writing great copy with a smart funny partner—something I was fortunate to do regularly at Westokes Advertising.
As I move into my thirteenth year of designing professionally, I’m hoping to help many more companies and individuals do great things with design. I believe in the transformative power of this medium, and I’ve seen its power to communicate and enlighten many times. Let’s work on something great together.
